The organization want to establish a preservation program. It will protect the species that lives in the African great Lakes. First Lake Malawi, and later perhaps more.
The plan that we will try to execute, is a dialogue with vets in Tanzania and Malawi. When we present our reports of the species, that need total peace from fishing, or fishing quota. This is for the fish exportation part. (We will come to other areas)
We will have or knowledge out to everyone. All rift keepers. So that there will be more focus on the issues, of a too high demand, on the same fish, again and again. It will be more difficult for Importers and exporters to do unfair fish deals. That thread the wild population.
The second step we will take is to buy land close to Lake Malawi, where we will build a place. Here we can host the ponds/aquariums we need, for the breeding program of endangered species… Build a lodge, restaurant, bar, working places for locals, and volunteers. And make it not only a national asset but a tourist attraction.
The fish that we will breed from wild collections, can be released back into the Lake, where they were caught. But we will also offer some for the export business, to meet the demands… And attempt to stop the wilds being caught for illegal exportation.
When we have dealt with the issues, caused by overfishing some species, we will look into the population and other areas. But fish collections for export business is the number one relevant factor for few species that are heavily overfished. For the Lake to also survive the population, and our way of living, other plans must be made.
RAISING CAPITAL:
We will look into exporting Cichlids. It might sound strange to some… That we will make money, in order to preserve, from the export business. The catching and exporting in itself is not a problem. Actually, it is very miner, what is being caught for exports, then what is being caught for consumption. There are many species in fact, that can be caught, without any issues.
We will create knowledge on this matter and show it.
Mark Thomas has already established a promising network, and we will use this, and he’s time, to create a profit, that can help building, and exploring for more endangered species.
It is also our idea, that talking directly to the rift keepers, we can get support members, who would like to participate. We can make the hobby more attractive, while we also help each other preserving the Lake, and what is in it. Perhaps supporters will help us a lot with the export business.
A second area, though much smaller, is the income from our supporting members.
The 3 areas will be the funds we will search from uni and other organizations.
We will use locals and supporters to help build our facilities, and we will come with more details in this project soon. It is about building in clay stones and using biofuel. This fuel is made from plants that can grow in semi-desert areas. Our board member Birger Kluge is in other organizations, that deal with this area. We will build so ecological, and sustainable as possible.
We will come with running updates on this.
